The knife itself is a solid little thing, the sheathe's a bit tight but that'll work in over time, the big reason I'm not giving this a higher rating is because out of the box, a good 1/3rd of the blade from the tip down was completely blunt, I don't mean unsharpened, I meant a visibly flat, blunt edge. I fixed it with an ~hour and a half and some whetstones, but at the price point and from a company I was told was reputable, this shouldn't be happening. I have one other knife in S45VN and it's a great steel, holds an edge for a very long time with minimal maintenance, but this also means it was fairly difficult to sharpen the blunt portion of the edge I received, so it goes both ways. Cosmetically I'm a fan of the design, the jimping is functional and well placed, the G10 grip insert provides good traction despite the thin profile of the knife, and the PVD FDE coating is smooth, consistent, and appealing, the included monkey-fist-ended lanyard loop is a nice touch. Hopefully if you choose this blade you'll receive a better example of Spartan's worksmanship than I did, because this -should- be a great knife under more ideal circumstances.
Interesting little knife. Would have been nice if it had passed a simple paper slice test right out of the box, but that's fixable with some time on the stones. Regardless, I did expect it to be sharp right out of the box, given the hype. Seems to be great materials. I'm a huge fan of S45VN steel.
I drooled over this knife for 6 years before I broke down & bought it. A work of art that exudes quality. I showed it to my buddy without telling him what it was & his first words were "I want to put on the lanyard just so I don't drop it." When I told him it was the Phrike from Spartan Blades, he said "well that explains it."
This knife is fantastic. I bought this to replace a HFB. I’ve been impressed with all my Spartan blades but this is a new high mark. It’s balanced and light, feels good and quick in the hand, and seems very sturdy. I’ve mostly carried it for self-defense so far but I look forward to using it in the field for hunting.
Placed order Friday and rec'd Monday. Phrike is exactly what I was looking for. Great blade. Thanks Spartan!
Very well made knife and excellent company to buy from, personalized service that you don’t get anywhere else
I'm in Love with Spartan Blades...Everything is great quality...Second to None! Great Steel! Awesome Strength and Edge Holding!
I am VERY happy with my Spartan Phrike (Black on Black). This is my second knife that I have bought from Spartan Blades, after watching some of the reviews on YouTube about it. I always receive outstanding customers service from this company.
Spartan Phrike Self Defense / Utility Knife
According to ancient Greek mythology, Phrike was the goddess of horror and fear. In the ancient Greek language, the word “phrike” literally meant “tremor” or “shivering.” The Spartan Phrike custom self defense knife is certainly an imposing blade: despite its small size, the Phrike stands out as an effective, finely crafted, and perfectly honed tool for both self defense and utility use.
The Spartan Phrike’s small, lightweight blade was designed specifically to be easy to carry for self defense and bushcraft. The knife’s 4.25” blade and minimal inset handle make it comfortable, slim, and highly portable.
The Phrike is an excellent utility knife, and can be carried on a daily basis for managing common tasks. It’s also perfect for the outdoors, and can be taken along on hunting and backpacking trips. In addition to this, the Phrike makes for a phenomenal handcrafted self defense knife, and is ideal to carry for emergencies and unexpected situations.
