Spartan Phrike – Self Defense / Utility Knife
Inspired by ancient Greek mythology, the Spartan Phrike Knife is named after the goddess of horror and fear—Phrike, whose name translates to “tremor” or “shivering.” Despite its compact size, this custom self-defense and utility knife is meticulously crafted to deliver maximum performance, portability, and reliability for everyday carry, tactical scenarios, and outdoor adventures.

After carrying and training for a while on my knife skills, I leveled up from the Enyo to the Phrike for the longer blade and full size grip. I carry AIWB and it's extremely comfortable, light, and easy to conceal. I especially like how the Enyo, Phrike, and Pallas (my folder) have the scalloped ridge on the blade top to allow the user to choke up on the knife.
I own two of your knives. And I love them both. Thank you for the excellent product.
It's hard to appreciate the craftsmanship fully with a simple picture as your only metric, but that made for quite a surprise when I opened the box my Phrike came in. The first thing that struck me, oddly, was the quality of the Molle sheath it was riding in. It is Incredibly rugged and versatile, having both belt loop and Molle attachment capabilities. When I picked it up, I noticed perhaps the most impressive feature of the knife: it is INCREDIBLY light and nimble in the hand, almost deceptively so because its durability is also readily apparent. It's very difficult to find both in one package, but Spartan Blades has delivered just that in arguably its most practical blade. This knife is well suited for daily utility carry, bushcraft, or tactical applications. Well done Spartan Blades!
I have been wanting a hard use easily concealed EDC fixed blade for a while. I always have a medium sized quality folder in my pocket, but I know there are several advantages to a good fixed blade for personal protection. I've always had a love for high quality, well designed blades. I have a vast collection of blades from Esee, Benchmade, Tops, Busse, Swamp Rat (a part of Busse) etc. I do not mind spending money on a good knife, as long as it lives up to the hype. I have always thought Spartan Blades looked great; but were they worth the money? The research I've done on the materials used, S35VN in this case, yielded nothing but good reviews. In researching Spartan Blades as a company, I saw a TON of reviews stating what amazing customer service they have. I also saw it was a veteran owned company that uses nothing but domestic materials from the US. I decided to give the Phrike a try and I'm really glad I did. This knife is beautiful. The fit and finish is a true testament to Spartan Blades commitment to quality. Everything on this knife was flawless. The detail in the small bevel along the unsharpened edges, the groves in the jimping, the flawless texture detail of the G10 handles, there is no part of this knife that isn't perfect. The knife came very sharp and the Spartacoat color coating looks VERY tough and like the rest of the knife, beautiful. I ordered it before work one evening and about 6 days later it was in my mail box. The last quality knife I ordered, I had to wait 4 MONTHS to get. I was amazed how fast Spartans service was. When the knife arrived, the printed invoice had a hand written thank you for my purchase, and a small note about hoping my knife gives me a lifetime of great service at the bottom. That in itself shows that Spartan Blades truly appreciates and values their customers. It's simple to put a copy of a generic typed thanks, or a plain invoice in with a box, but the fact that they take a moment to try to make a personal connection to their customers is something you don't often find now days. This is NOT my last Spartan blade, I have my eye on at least 2 others I will add to my collection. These knives aren't cheap. I'm not wealthy, I am a blue collar working man that works hard to earn a decent middle class living. I do not have money to waste on junk, and I don't make frivolous purchases off the cuff without research. I would order the Phrike again right now if I had it to do all over again, it fit my idea of what I wanted perfectly. If you are looking for a good, smaller sized fixed blade for a self defense and/or utility purpose, this knife will not disappoint. It is very thin, but it feels good in my hand. (I"m 6'-1" tall weigh 250lbs and wear a 2X work glove.) I cant explain it, but my wife is 5-3 and 130lbs and it fits her hand well also. I own some great knives, knives I love, but I can honestly say none of them top my Spartan Blades Phrike in quality. Throw in the fact that Spartan is veteran owned (thank you and God bless you guys) and use only American materials and labor, I would recommend these knives to anyone who wanted a serious blade that will last generations. You will get what you pay for when you go with a Spartan Blades knife.
The knife is beautiful sharp and has a great clean look
So, shortly after getting the knife I posted a review on google reviews about the product and on the quality of service from the folks here at Spartan Blades. I'll copy and paste that here as well as my most recent experiences. I had the chance to take this knife into the field this last week and give it a chance to get some good use on it, and it consistently performed beyond what I even expected it to do. The blade still has maintained its edge as well, cutting everything from MRE's open, to cutting chunks of wood and paracord to make terrain models. A big thing I really appreciated about the blade too, is how compact it is. Between my gear belt and my flack jacket itself, I am not left with an abundance of space to put things through my molle without it getting in the way of other things. This knife is a solid solution to that problem, especially for folks who prefer fixed blades over folders. The kydex sheath fits nicely with everything else, and holds the blade in place perfectly. To be more specific, while running through the woods, diving down and jumping up from covered position to covered position, I quickly learned that the knife was not going to be popping out of that sheath unless I absolutely wanted it to. I will say however, I did dummy cord the sheath to my flack through one of the holes along the sheath and the molle, just in case the button securing it to the flack was pulled undone and the sheath was pulled from my flack, that way it'll just hang down and hit my leg or whatever. But it won't be lost! One thing to keep in mind when buying this knife in particular, is that the handle is very thin. So if you have bigger hands, I suggest either paracording the handle (the g10 grips are very nice though) or just getting one of their larger knives. Anyway, I highly recommend this blade and this business. Now for the review I left on Google! "The folks here are awesome people, that make awesome blades, and have awesome customer service. I recently bought the Phrike from them (a beautifully put together knife and piece of art) where they also did some engraving work for me. It came out amazing, I got it yesterday and it has already served some utility purposes out in the woods. The quality of their knives (that anyone would be hard pressed to find elsewhere) is also reflected in their customer service. I spoke to both Kim and Curtis sorting out details about ordering the knife from them, and in the four times that I called them for information, not once did they act annoyed or anything of the sort. They maintained a more than respectable level of both professionalism and friendliness. When I spoke with Curtis on the phone as well, he was also willing to impart some of his wisdom to me from his experiences in the military and suggestions on what steps I could take next when asked. Point being, they are willing to take the time to talk with you. Just to make it perfectly clear, this is an amazing American company that puts out a quality product. Not to sound too cheesy, but interactions like the one I had with these folks are those little reminders of why we as Americans have a lot to be proud of, even if it isn't always obvious. I will definitely be buying more products from them in the future (I'm going to pick up their Ares knife next), not just for myself but also as gifts. Also! When I got my knife in the mail they included one of their shemaghs, serving as another example of how much they care about their business and their customers. Thank you folks again. Have a great day!" Sorry for the longer review...
I live in the middle of Davy Crockett National forest. I spend the week working in Houston. I purchased this knife several weeks back. I use it around the house on weekends and keep it with me during the week in Houston as well. I feel very well prepared from a knife standpoint with the phrike. I use it for utility and cooking on weekends. Nice to have a small fixed blade knife with me during the week should I need one. It has been a faithful companion for all my needs. My first spartan was the Harsey Hunter, very pleased with it as well. If you looking for a well made knife either one of these will serve you well. I hope to purchase a couple more models in the future.
Sharp as can be great edc. Been looking at this one for a while. Was going to get the special edition but I like to rough my knives up not keep them pretty. Love this knife so far
I purchased the Phrike with the intention to use it as a utility knife around my home and camp but once I received it I became infatuated with feel of the knife in my hand. I'm a student of Kali and have a strong love of edged weapons; once I began doing drills with this knife I knew it would never be used for "utility" and now it is on my belt every day. I REALLY want a trainer version! Hint, Hint, Spartan blades.
