This knife hands down is one of the best-made and most usable knives of its kind I have ever purchased from any source.
This blade arrived promptly after ordering. Well. As prompt as your postal service can make it. First, handling of the kukri and you can feel the ergonomics of one of Mr. Harsey's designs. The knife is made of thick bar stock 1095 CroVan with the balance forward of the handle to make chopping easier. I really like the feel of the handle plus it was very easy to add a lanyard using the provided opening. The sheath is a well thought out accessory. Except for the hook and loop strap. The sheath has no openings to accommodate the blade shape, rather it was designed to fit the entire blade from inception. I also like the retention lock. Keeps the kukri secure and it can release with a flick of the thumb. There are lots of grommet holes and slots on the periphery for other attachment options. Overall it's worth the price for the design, quality of build & materials used in all aspects of construction. I wouldn't hesitate to take this knife bush whacking because it's a tough product and well thought out.
Excellent field knife, perfect size to lash to your day pack! Spartan quality is exceptional. Highly recommend!
The Spartan-Harsey Kukri
The Spartan-Harsey Kukri knife is designed as a heavy duty outdoor chopper. The kukri has an 8 6/8” blade that is a useful all-around tool because its center of mass allows the user to slice as they chop to penetrate and slice through thick objects. While this blade design is most famed for its use in the military, the kukri is the more commonly used as a multipurpose tool in the fields and homes in Nepal. Its use has varied from building, clearing, chopping firewood, digging, slaughtering animals for food, cutting meat and vegetables, skinning animals, and opening cans. It can function as a smaller knife by using the narrower part of the blade, closest to the handle. The heavier and wider end of the blade, towards the tip, functions as an axe or a small shovel.
