Beyond Excellent!
I’ve learned not to use odd characters in my reviews to avoid strange symbol translations. As for the Harsey Difensa, it is my very favorite knife in my large collection. It’s my number one “go to” knife for any job or any situation that I may encounter. The Difensa is extremely strong, very sharp, balanced, and well crafted. The quality and blade material are outstanding in every way. It holds an edge well. The Micarta handle is very confortable and provides for a powerful grip of the knife. I finally had the opportunity to purchase this knife with a black blade, black Micarta handle, and with a black Kydex shealth. What’s nice is that the Kydex sheath doesn’t scratch the black finish on the blade like it does on my Spartan Horkos knife. I really don’t care either way about the scratches, but I thought I would mention it. The Kydex sheath provides for a tight retention of the knife, yet it’s very easy to draw the knife when needed. The knife is easy to use, and it holds up extremely well when batoning wood, cutting material, in prying situations, and even in digging. It is a “a must have” for any survival or self-defense situation. Though it’s weight is not as light as some may like, it’s strong usefulness outweighs that notion. As a former military veteran and law enforcement officer, the Difensa, to me, is among the best knives on the market for survival. I would highly recommend the Difensa for a superior, all-around survival tool. It’s price is high, but its usefulness outweighs the price. William Harsey did it right in his design of the Difensa. Of course, this is all my opinion.

The knife is perfect, unlike the kydex sheath
I love the knife and I don't know what could be reproached to it. Personnally I consider it perfect. However, the kydex sheath is soooo tight that I had great difficulty to take the knife out of it. After removing some plastic with a Dremel tool, it is better. However, I now intend to buy the leather sheath. To conclude : go for the knife, but if you are not as strong as Schwarzenegger, forget about the kydex sheath.

Kydex sheath
The spartan difensa is a fantastic knife, very well made, high quality, super comfortable micarta grips, my only concern was not with the knife but the kydex sheath, when I received the knife and went to pull it out if the sheath I had to pull with everything I had to get it out , way too tight and there doesn’t seem to be a way to loosen it up, I’ve owned many knives and have never had one that tight before, also the sheath is so tight that it leaves scuff mark on my new knife, not good. I still gave the knife itself 5 stars but the sheath is a quality sheath bit extremely tight fit

Just received my Spartan Difensa today to add to my collection. It is very high quality and I like it alot. It should last more than my lifetime and be passed on to my heirs. I plan on acquiring a Spartan George V14 Combat Dagger as well.

Best all Purpose Knife Ever
What can I really say? I mean, just try picking up a Harsey Difensa, 'nough said.
Spartan Harsey Difensa
In 1943, a battle was fought between the U.S. / Canadian First Special Service Force and German troops in Italy. Known as the Battle for Monte la Difensa, the courageous performance of U.S. and Canadian forces here was essential to the eventual Allied victory in Italy.
When the Canadian special forces commissioned Spartan Blades and master knifemaker William Harsey to produce a blade for them, we knew we wanted to create something special. Our goal was to craft a knife that would serve their special forces well in the years to come -- both in the northern woods of their homeland and on worldwide deployments alike. The result was the Spartan Harsey Difensa, named after the infamous and hard-fought victory achieved by cooperation between Canadian and U.S. forces.
The name speaks to this custom tactical knife’s excellent all-around field and battlefield use. The spear point profile of this handcrafted knife is flat ground, with a tapered top edge that makes for excellent tip strength, penetration balance, and sheer cutting ability.
The full tang and handle of the Spartan Harsey Difensa allow for a neutral balance in the user’s hand. Combined with the textured, ergonomic canvas Micarta handle -- modified from our Model II with no rear jimping -- this custom combat knife offers the wielder a comfortable, confident grip whether wet or dry.
