This is a top-quality tactical field knife, made with a great steel and attention to detail. I went with the green canvas and flat dark earth blade finish. Paired up with the coyote brown kydex sheath, this is a very earth-toned knife which would blend into any environment.
Recently, while sorting my dad's souvenirs, a noticed a knife I know since I was a kid. The character " U.S.A. " is still barely legible.
He must got it at the end of WW2, while getting his B25 pilot training back then.
Glad that I now also own an excellent USA made blade - to keep this family tradition going.
The balance the handle the blade are just unbelievable! If I had purchased this years ago I would have not bought another knife , period! True craftsmanship at its finest and on top of that very affordable. The last great point about this product is that it is built in the U.S.A. The difensa is Top knotch!
What a knife! I own the Horkos, Harsey Model 2, and now the Difensa. I hope Spartan Blades make the Harsey Model 1 Limited Edition again so I can nab one! But I love the feel of the William Harsey design handles. Absolutely the best feeling grip out of any knives I've had in the past. I to was in the US Army 22yrs and I was an Airborne Ranger and LRSD, LRSC (Long Range Surveillance Unit) 8 1/2 yrs a sniper , pathfinder Jumpmaster, etc. I have owned a bunch of knives. I even was the go-to guy to sharpen buddies knives. Boy can one learn a lot about companies steel and tempering when sharpening others knives. With all that....I love everything about Spatan Blades knives. Yes a bit pricey but with they're tempering , finishes, and design , worth every penny. If you get the cash and are in doubt what knives will serve well. Look no further...plus if you see them you'd better jump on them because they go fast!
I believe the concept of judging a knife "For ease of Sharpening" in the age of Diamond sharpeners is an out dated concept. So go RC 60 plus! Being originally from Washington/Motana hunters on their animal harvest do not want to stop to resharpen knives while in BEAR Country.
I love William Harseys knives....you guys picked a great designer. I'm so in love I have been trying to find Intel on nabbing me one of the Harsey Tanto's. It's funny how hard it was to convince my wife for knives when I was in the Army....now that I am Med-Retired I can get all I want!
Thank you guys for great knives and awesome Customer Service and for helping me get a Harsey Model 2 Kydex Sheath.
I was researching the market on good quality blades I came across Spartan Blades. At first I read alot about the company I liked what I read. I was looking for a blade that can serve me well in the woods so YouTube clip on the difensa harsey in action and I was sold. Just received the Difensa gave it a thorough look and I am very happy over purchase. Would like to give a special thanks to Gents over at Spartan blades 5 star service and craftsmanship looking forward to purchasing from you guys in the near future.
a truly stunning knife! have not had it in the field yet but it obviously will be up to the job.
thank you for a beautiful blade with a fantastic kydex sheath. sharp and very very pointy. this is the knife that's on my gunbelt ready to go. hope this never becomes my everyday carry.
If there's perfection in the knife making world, then the Spartan Harsey Difensa is it. This thing is so well balanced, it fits my hand perfectly, it has weight that give it that balance & great hand feel. I don't know how else to describe it except to say it's near perfection.
You guys rock! When I saw the Difensa among so many other options shopping on the Internet, it just looked right.
Comparing price, blade quality, and workmanship, including the kydex sheath, there are few out there that compare.
Spartan Harsey Difensa
In 1943, a battle was fought between the U.S. / Canadian First Special Service Force and German troops in Italy. Known as the Battle for Monte la Difensa, the courageous performance of U.S. and Canadian forces here was essential to the eventual Allied victory in Italy.
When the Canadian special forces commissioned Spartan Blades and master knifemaker William Harsey to produce a blade for them, we knew we wanted to create something special. Our goal was to craft a knife that would serve their special forces well in the years to come -- both in the northern woods of their homeland and on worldwide deployments alike. The result was the Spartan Harsey Difensa, named after the infamous and hard-fought victory achieved by cooperation between Canadian and U.S. forces.
The name speaks to this custom tactical knife’s excellent all-around field and battlefield use. The spear point profile of this handcrafted knife is flat ground, with a tapered top edge that makes for excellent tip strength, penetration balance, and sheer cutting ability.
The full tang and handle of the Spartan Harsey Difensa allow for a neutral balance in the user’s hand. Combined with the textured, ergonomic canvas Micarta handle -- modified from our Model II with no rear jimping -- this custom combat knife offers the wielder a comfortable, confident grip whether wet or dry.
